Befriend your Nervous System – a somatic exploration – Chennai

Befriend your Nervous System – a somatic exploration – Chennai

What if the way you experience stress, overwhelm, anxiety, numbness, or emotional intensity isn’t something wrong with you — but your nervous system trying to protect you?

Our bodies constantly respond to the world around us. Every interaction, stressor, memory, and emotion moves through our nervous system.

Yet most of us were never taught how to understand these responses — or how to work with them.

Instead we often find ourselves:

  • feeling overwhelmed or anxious
  • shutting down or disconnecting
  • reacting more strongly than we want to
  • struggling to move through emotions
  • feeling disconnected from our bodies

This workshop is an invitation to slow down and begin listening to the language of your body.

Through guided somatic practices, reflection, psycho-education and experiential exercises, you will learn how your nervous system works and how to support it with awareness and compassion.

Rather than trying to “fix” yourself, this experience helps you build a supportive relationship with your body and its natural responses.

What Makes This Workshop Different

This is not just a lecture or information session.

It is a guided, educational and experiential space where learning happens through direct experience.

You will be invited into gentle practices that help you:

  • • tune into your body
  • • recognize nervous system shifts
  • • build awareness of sensations and emotions
  • • develop practical tools for everyday life

You will leave with a deeper understanding of your nervous system and simple practices you can return to again and again.

when protection becomes a pattern

When Your Nervous System Is Stuck in Survival

When the nervous system spends long periods in stress or protective states, it can begin to shape many areas of our lives.

You may notice experiences such as:

  • feeling constantly overwhelmed or anxious
  • periods of shutdown, numbness, or exhaustion
  • difficulty focusing or mental fog
  • emotional reactions that feel bigger than the situation
  • recurring relationship challenges
  • patterns you want to change but feel stuck in
  • difficulty moving through emotions
  • feeling disconnected from your body

Often these experiences are not just “in the mind.”

They are patterns held in the body and nervous system.

Your nervous system learned these responses as ways to protect and help you survive.

But sometimes those protective patterns continue long after the original stress or experience has passed.

Because lasting change begins in the body

Why Nervous System Work Matters

Supporting the nervous system can be a powerful entry point for change.

Rather than only managing symptoms, this work focuses on helping the body experience safety, regulation, and capacity again.

When the nervous system begins to shift, people often notice changes in how they:

  • respond to stress
  • process emotions
  • relate to themselves and others
  • access clarity and energy

Without this foundation of regulation, many healing approaches — including somatic exercises, breathwork, tapping, or even talk therapy — can sometimes feel like temporary relief rather than lasting change.

Learning about my nervous system made me feel empowered instead of broken. The mix of science and body-based practice was delivered so beautifully. I walked away with clarity and softness. I finally understood why I react the way I do and how to meet those moments with compassion.I now have practices I can return to whenever life feels too much.

I’ve been through therapy, yoga, meditation etc... but this felt different. It was a kind of presence and knowledge I didn’t know I was wanting.. I now understand my stress responses and feel more equipped to meet myself with care. There was something really grounding about the way smylee held it... no pressure to be anything, just space to explore. I could actually feel my body relax in a way it hasn’t in a long time and connect more with it. Thanks so much. Highly recommend.

I've attended a lot of Smylee's sessions and every single one brings a different shift in my life and healing. This somatic training one really deepened my learning and understanding of the nervous system and helped me connect and become more aware of my body. I noticed subtle patterns I hadn’t seen before and I feel more empowered. There’s always a sense of warmth, depth and safety in the way she guides. It’s hard to put into words but something inside me felt more settled after.

this was the first time i connected so deeply with my own body. It felt so gentle and also really powerful. The practices were super simple but nade a big difference. I realised so many things i was doing on autopilot you know all my coping stuff and just how disconnected i’d been without even knowing it. I recommend this learning to anyone who want to connect wth their body deeply.
